COVID-19 UPDATE

Effective at 12:01 AM on Monday, August 9, 2021, changes will be implemented to some of our COVID protocols

Vaccination rates continue to increase throughout Nova Scotia and Canada, infection rates remain low, community spread is limited, and the Province anticipates entering Stage 5 in September. As a result, we are taking this opportunity to relax some of our COVID protocols. This decision was also based upon the encouraging results of recent employee survey. We will hold another anonymous survey on August 11th.

Effective at 12:01 AM on Monday, August 9, 2021, the following changes will be implemented:

  • The North Gate at the Shipyard will re-open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic commencing at 6:00 am on Monday August 9th.
  • Employees/contractors/visitors will no longer be required to submit to a temperature check when entering ISI facilities. Everyone will still be required to wear a mask entering and exiting the property, on the ships, in common areas and on elevators.
  • Employees/contractors/visitors will no longer be asked any screening questions when entering an ISI facility but are still expected to act appropriately and follow any directions given by a public health agency.
  • We will suspend the additional and extraordinary COVID cleaning that has been occurring in all our facilities. All employees/contractors/visitors are still required to wipe down their lunch table, microwaves, and common areas after use and is encouraged to encouraged to disinfect/wash their hands regularly.
  • Capacity of elevators increases to normal passenger levels with ALL persons wearing a non-medical mask

We are also following and evaluating the rapidly emerging trends in response to the Delta Variant wave in other locations. Many employers are implementing policies to ensure they adequately maintain workplace health and safety by requiring employees to wear a mask at all times unless they provide proof of vaccination. We will consult with our JOSH Committees and Union representatives as we consider our options and will keep everyone updated.

All employees are encouraged to educate themselves about the COVID-19 vaccines. If comfortable and medically able, we encourage vaccines for all who are eligible because the vaccines have proven to be extremely effective in limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Keep Safe, Stay Well and Have Great Weekend!
