The Start of Collective Bargaining

Collective bargaining between the Halifax Shipyard and Unifor Local 1, the union representing hourly shipbuilders at Halifax Shipyard, will begin on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, when the bargaining committees have their first meeting.

The current collective bargaining agreement expires on December 31, 2017. View the collective bargaining process.

We are optimistic that we will achieve a negotiated collective bargaining agreement that is fair and reasonable for our shipbuilders, and allows our organization to continue our legacy of efficiently building and maintaining ships for Canada. However we anticipate that this will take work. Given the importance of this set of talks, the bargaining may prove to be quite challenging.

Ultimately our goal is to achieve a contract that works for our employees, the Halifax Shipyard, and the shipbuilding industry.
