Conciliation Update – December 15, 2017

Scheduled conciliation meetings between the Halifax Shipyard and Unifor Local 1 bargaining committee concluded yesterday.

The parties are scheduling additional meetings for January 2018.

This is a very difficult round of bargaining and there is a lot of work left to do. That being said, the past few days of conciliation have resulted in more productive discussions between the parties than previous meetings.

Our goal is to have the labour stability that will help us successfully address our order book over the next few decades, this while other shipyards are laying off shipbuilders and trying to figure out what they will work on next. We remain hopeful that we will be able to reach a negotiated collective bargaining agreement that will do just that.
